Domino is a set of small square pieces, typically twice as long and wide, connected by lines in their centers. Each side of a domino has an assigned value represented by one or more dots known as “pips.” Double six is typically used when playing dominoes. Every end of a domino can either contain six pips or none; their summation determines their rank; dominoes with more pips have higher ranks than ones with fewer. Dominos can be used to form intricate designs by stacking long lines together or arranging into patterns of increasing complexity. Domino has come to symbolize chain reactions between events which then lead to larger and sometimes catastrophic consequences, thus giving rise to the phrase ‘the domino effect.
Playing domino usually involves placing all pieces in a row with each end touching, touching one another directly and having each domino be touched by another piece before it. When one domino falls over, this causes another one to follow suit, until eventually, all pieces in the row collapse onto each other and fall over altogether. Dominoes can be used to form simple patterns or more intricate constructions, and are also popular children’s toys. Most domino sets are constructed from polymers like plastic or epoxy resin. Others, however, may feature natural materials like bone, silver lip ocean pearl oyster shell (mother of pearl) pips with black or white contrast markings, ivory, or ebony to give an antiqued feel with more distinctive looks and feels compared to polymeric dominoes but may cost more.
Domino is a mutant with the power to influence events so as to maximize their consequences, drawn upon an artificial genetic enhancement created during her participation in a top-secret government breeding program. After leaving this endeavor behind her, she went on to become a mercenary.
Domino typically relies on her luck powers to escape trouble, but the government sometimes exploits her abilities for its own gain. One program she was part of involved attempting to control its destructive potential by employing Domino’s “luck” power; unfortunately, however, her ability to create perfect chains of events ultimately destroyed this experiment.
Domino has recently joined Storm’s security task force on Utopia to protect it from various threats, notably Cable at their safe-house and assassin Blockade (whom Cable vengefully destroyed). Later she was approached by Jesse Aaronson who asked her help finding his brother Gryaznova; in exchange, Jesse gave Domino an implant designed to stop machinery activating her mutation fully and thus hinder its activation.
